Property Tax Reform Poll 2020

Welcome to your Property Tax Reform Poll 2020

For reporting purposes, what is your age group?

Are you a resident in the unincorporated part of the county or a resident of a municipality that provides police, fire and EMS services?

Have you ever protested your property tax valuations?

If you protested your valuation(s), what was the result?

Proposed phase out of school district property taxes.  Are you in favor or opposed to school district taxes being phased by property owner age, i.e., At age 60, a 50% reduction is school taxes, at age 60 a 75% tax reduction and 100% for those over age 80?

The Texas Tax Code permits property owners the ability to protest their tax valuations each year but even after a successful protest, the valuations are often reset to the higher amount the following year.  Are you in favor of or opposed to a freeze of the valuation for the current tax year, plus two additional years for a successful protest at any level of protest (informal, formal hearsing or as the result of arbitration or a lawsuit)

Texas passed a "Property Tax Cap" on the increase of a valuation that did not apply to all property tax collecting entities.  Are you in favor or opposed to extending this cap, to all entities who collect taxes from property taxes?

In the Texas Property Tax "Cap", a taxing entity is limited to a 3.5 increase in collections over the previous tax year.  To collect more than the 3.5 % rate, the taxing entity must have a taxpayer affirmation election to get that permission.  As part of that process, should this election combine all intended uses of the additional tax into a lump category or should it be in sub-categories so taxpayers can designate each category and require that funds so raised, are applied as designed by the taxpayers?  For transparency and accountability, are you in favor of these sub-categories or opposed?

For residents of a municipality that provides emergency services (police-fire-EMS) residents pay for these services in part by property tax collections.  For city residents so served or for those annexed into the municipality, the county continues to collect property taxes for county police, fire and EMS even though they will no longer received those services from the county.  Are you in favor of opposed to a limited property tax exemption for these county services no longer being received?
